Removal
(All vehicles)
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Disconnect the spring lock coupling.
- Remove the fuel charging wiring harness.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Detach the harness.
- Remove the engine trim retaining bracket.
- Detach the coolant pipe.
- Remove and discard the seal.
- Detach the fuel injection supply manifold and lower intake manifold and place to one side.
- Remove the fuel injection supply manifold and lower intake manifold.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the lower intake manifold O-ring seals.
- Detach the KS electrical connector from the retaining bracket.
- Disconnect the KS electrical connector.
- Remove the water pump outlet coolant pipe.
- Remove and discard the seal.
- Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe.
- Remove and discard the seal.
- Remove the KS.

NOTE: Prior to installing the KS, clean the engine block and KS mating surfaces with metal surface cleaner (WSW-M5B392-A).
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Tighten to 19 Nm.
- Install a new seal.
- Tighten to 25 Nm.
- Install a new seal.
- Tighten to 10 Nm.
- Tighten in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 10 Nm.
- Install a new seal.
- Tighten to 9 Nm.
- Tighten to 6 Nm.
This description of replacing a knock sensor provides no detail or explanations. It is too vague. Having replaced a knock sensor on the X type, I would not rely on this post. There are much better posts on the internet with photos and details
ReplyDeleteI just tried doing just that and spent hours looking through all the videos after doing a search for x-type shock sensor replacement and didn't find one I found everything else trouble is utube uses every word in the search so all kinds of Jaguars show up and all kinds of repairs but NO X-Type shock sensor repair

ReplyDeleteI saw another post to replace the shock sensor on a X-Type complete with description pictures trouble is I cannot find it now I sure would like to find it again, also how do you get the vacuum lines unclipped I have tried pressing down on the part closest to the manifold with a probe looks like a solid ring, but it dont move is there a special tool?
ReplyDeleteThere was a fully detailed description of how to change the knock sensor on the 2.5 X type complete with photographs look as hard as I can I can no longer find that post if anyone that runs this forum see's my post here I would like to find the post or article again I had to stop halfway through the job 18 months or so ago I have had everything wrapped up and rodent proof covers on everything and want to continue the job thanks
