Oil leaks on your Jaguar XK 4.2 engine

I have seen a lot of Jaguars with the 4.2 liter engine leaking around the oil filter housing area. Well this is a relatively cheap fix (if you read my blog :D) that's why I'm sharing it. If oil leaks are your problem this is a good, easy and cheap place to start.

Here is the how to for replacing the:
  1. Oil filter housing O-ring
  2. Oil pan gasket
For the parts, here is what you'll need:
Here is how to do it:

  • Changing the oil pan gasket is easy. First of all, drain the oil.
  • Then, all you have to do is remove a bunch of 8mm bolts that hold it in place. And pry it down. This is how it will look removed.

  • Here is a pic of the pan. Clean it with a rag on the inside. The gasket is attached to the engine. Note how it goes before removing it. Then with a pic just pull it down. Place the new one and Catch the pan with the 8 mm bolts by hand first. Then tighten with a 1/4 inch drive. You don't want overtighten these bolts and create another leak.

  • Now for the oil filter housing. First off, remove the oil filter. With the oil filter removed, you have to disconnect the two connectors going to it:

  • Then, you have to remove with a 3/8 drive and a 10 mm socket the three bolts that secure the oil filter housing to the engine. Then just pull it out:

  • Then remove the O-ring which looks like an 8 more than an O but hey, and then replace it. Here is a photo of the part number which I also listed above:
Then just reverse procedure to install: Place the new O-ring on the housing, place it back, catch the three 10 mm bolts by hand then tighten. Plug in the connectors and screw in the new oil filter. Use the links I provided above to shop for parts and help this blog!

  1. Today, virtually every other motor oil manufacturer has recognized the superiority of synthetic lubricants and has followed the AMSOIL lead with introductions of synthetic motor oils of their own. Accept no substitutes – AMSOIL is The First in Synthetics®.

  2. Can you give me the torque spec for the 3 bolts for the oil filter housing "O" rings for a 2008 Jaguar XKR.
    Thank you.
